Sunset Difference
In soda, craft is a buzzword. It’s usually used to show that a brand either has a long history or creates unique flavors. Unfortunately, none of this is really craft. Not to us.
At Sunset, craft is a process. It’s our culture. Craft defines everything we do. In grade school, you didn’t come home and show your parents some clipart you printed in the computer lab and call it a craft. You strung macaroni on yarn, glued magazine clippings to poster board, and made terrible paper-mâché. You did things by hand. You put thought into it. That’s craft. And that’s how we do things here.
Yeah, there’s an easier way to do it, but we’re not here for easy. We’re here to make sodas we’re proud of.

Natural. That’s our top criteria. Colors from nature, sweeteners from plants (the kind that grow in the ground, not the kind that manufacture things), and flavors from real fruits, extracts, and spices. What does this mean for you? It means you know what you’re drinking. It also means you should refrigerate your soda because natural ingredients don’t last as long as those chemicals you can’t pronounce. Plus, if your soda’s in the fridge, it’s always at the ready.

By hand. Years ago, that meant we were using stockpots and saucepans to fine tune our flavors. We’ve grown up since then, but we still chop, mix, blend, stir and do just about everything else one step at a time. Today, most of our equipment looks less like a production line and more like what you’d expect to find in a craft brewery. We’re all about soda, and everything we brew is alcohol free, we just prefer to do things the right way. We even work hard to ensure everything is recyclable so we can do our part while helping you do yours.

Our cofounders, Frank and Josh, have always kept close ties to their community. Naturally, they instill the importance of connection in everyone at Sunset. Whether that means educating people about soda or working with local businesses, connecting with the community is part of the craft. We’re here because of a strong community (and, you know, great soda) and we know that being a part of that community is about more than just setting up shop.
It’s a simple story. The Sunset Soda co-founders — Frank Schiffner and Josh Carnell — met in a high school photography class, bonded over a love of soda (kinda niche, right?), and decided they could brew their own. Sure, the path was paved with countless undrinkable test batches made in a home kitchen and enough hand-bottled cases to make most people swear off soda for good, but they were right: they could brew their soda. And they’ve been focused on the craft ever since.
